THE SEED - A Film By Arp Frique - full movie
The Seed
Dedicated to Jesamy
THIS MOVIE WAS CREATED TO LEAVE YOU WITH MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS
The Seed is linked to a track by Stevie Wonder that Arp Frique often covers with his band live - 'A Seed's a Star/Tree Medley'. It is also the title of his latest album and the accompanying movie. This film is a deeply personal one. It reflects on the times we live in: the confusion, hope, despair, rebellion, unity, upgrading consciousness and divinity. The creative process - despite benefiting hugely from guests that include Americo Brito, Ronald Snijders, Mariseya and the late Orlando Julius - is also a personal and intense one.
The theme of The Seed that runs through the movie, and the connotations of a life cycle, is linked to the birth of his daughter, the rise of his band, the creation of something out of nothing and many of life’s bigger questions. Much like the album itself, the accompanying movie touches upon the tones and styles of bygone decades. “It’s a mixture of a road movie featuring myself and the live band, mixed with a semi-fictional semi-autobiographical story with the album as a soundtrack. Think Holy Mountain meets Sun Ra movies meets Purple Rain but on a low budget with a VHS-cult vibe to it.”
