Arp Frique & Family at Dekmantel Connects 2020
Video recording of Arp Frique's live performance at Dekmantel Connects. Band: Arp Frique Video: We Are Today (www.wearetoday.nl) Sound: Think AV! Light: Raito Scenography Location: Het Hem Information: Synthesizers and Spirituality. The magnetic sound of Arp Frique is flushed with electric colour and warm, pulsating beats. Retro-futurism meets seriously slapping basslines, conjuring 1970s disco danceability. The band is known about collaborations with some of the best-known and loved veterans of the afro-beat, funk and soul canon like Cape Verdean singer Americo Brito, Brazillian funkster Ed Motta and the legendary Orlando Julius. On their forthcoming 2021 album The Seed the Arp Frique familly also welcomes Dutch-Ghanian vocalist and Afro-pop musician Mariseya. Background information Dekmantel Connects: Between December 14th and 23rd 2020, Dekmantel Connects offered a carefully curated programme covering a broad spectrum of electronic music interests. Dekmantel Connects stimulates thought and conversation, offers ideas for aspiring music professionals as well as enjoying music, all while making connections between different aspects of the (electronic) music world. In uncertain times, we were grateful to collaborate with Bud and Lynk & Co who made Dekmantel Connects possible.

Arp Frique & Family // SUPER-SONIC JAZZ - ONLINE FESTIVAL 2020 // Live from Paradiso Amsterdam
ARP FRIQUE: The Colorful World of Arp Frique is the exotic, super funky and well received debut album of Niels Nieuborg, released on Rush Hour. Pulsating NYC style live disco vibes, interwoven with both Caribbean and Cape Verdean sounds, are themes throughout the record with danceability always guaranteed and a healthy finishing touch of weirdness present across most tracks. First single ‘Nos Magia’ was shortlisted for Track of the Year 2017 at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and has been given airplay by BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and NTS whilst club DJs Antal and Hunee have all supported the track in their sets. The Arp Frique alter ego is a reference of course to two things Nieuborg clearly appreciates in music: firstly the sound of the Arp synths and secondly, by referring to Chic’s ‘Le Freak’, he is also showing love to the genre of disco. Arp Frique’s music may sound vintage and authentic at times but all tunes are original and made with live instruments. Mind you though, that all compositions are the product of the “insatiable creative urge” of just one man. FOLLOW ARP FRIQUE: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/arpfrique/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CJElBdOFsW3/ Bandcamp: https://arpfrique.bandcamp.com/ SUPER-SONIC JAZZ: Talent development platform Super-Sonic Jazz started in 2016 as a series of concerts and club nights at the legendary venue Paradiso Amsterdam to provide a stage for the new wave of contemporary jazz musicians in the city. An annual festival and the launch of the independent record label Super-Sonic Jazz Records followed. With experimental programming that blends traditional jazz with contemporary genres such as hip-hop, neo-soul, R&B and electronic music, Super-Sonic Jazz pushes the boundaries of what jazz culture means to listeners, enthusiasts and artists alike. On October 21 and 22, 2020 the fourth edition of the annual Super-Sonic Jazz Festival would have taken place at Paradiso Amsterdam as part of the Amsterdam Dance Event, but given the situation surrounding the outbreak of the corona virus, the festival was presented as a digital livestream festival instead of a physical event. The online edition of Super-Sonic Jazz 2020 continues the mission of Super-Sonic Jazz, which is presenting and promoting local talents that we believe in.
